RING DONUTS for Hanukkah
Ring donuts for the Hanukkah holiday. Also called a Festival of Lights., refers to the miracle of one-day oil supply marvelously burning and giving light for eight days. That’s why, by tradition, it is associated with foods fried in oil.
Celebrating Hanukkah is all about eating, and sure enough, we don’t want to miss such an opportunity. The question is: how to enjoy eating yummy Hanukkah meals without gaining extra pounds? The good news is, we can cook them Low GI and miraculously make it through the entire eight days 😉
Here is how I make Low Glycemic Ring Donuts on Hanukkah
Ingredients
- 1 1/3 cup of warm water
- 1 tsp pure fructose
- ½ of small (5/16 oz/ 8.75g) bag active dry yeast for whole grain flour
- 5 cups sprouted wheat flour
- 1 cup oatmeal flour
- Pinch of salt
Olive oil for deep frying
Directions
- Combine 1/3 cup of warm water, yeast, and fructose. Set aside in a warm place until bubbles appear on the surface.
- Using a wooden spoon, stir well all the dough ingredients
- Cover with a cloth and let it stand in a warm place for 3-4 hours
- Oil your hands, and make small rings or any other desired shape. If the dough is sticky, you may need to add some more sprouted wheat flour
- Cover with nylon and set to rise for 20-30 minutes
- Preheat olive oil and fry for about 2 minutes on each side
- Drain on paper towel to remove extra oil
Serve warm with Low Glycemic sweeteners:
- Agave syrup
- 100% fruit jam
- Splenda with cinnamon
