WHOLE GRAIN ROUTINE PASTA with GROUND BEEF and TOMATO SAUCE
The second-time guest on Taste of Change for KIDS TV show – Sophia Pankevych – inspires you to use whole grain pasta for this yummy meal.
WHOLE GRAIN ROTINE PASTA WITH GROUND BEEF AND TOMATO SAUCE
Ingredients
- 1 box of Whole Wheat Rotine Pasta
- 1 pound of Ground Beef
- 3 tomatoes
- 1 onion
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1 bay Leaf
- 3-4 tbsp of tomato paste (no sugar)
- oregano and Basil to taste
- salt and black pepper
- olive oil for cooking
Instructions
Cooking beef:
- Put a pan on medium heat and add olive Oil
- Cut 1/2 onion into tiny cubes and add to the pan
- Put beef in the pan, cook stirring for 8-10 minutes
- Add salt, black pepper, and tomatopaste into the fully cooked beef
- Reduce heat to low. Add water to the beef so it can keepits juiciness
Cooking Tomato Sauce:
- Cut the other half of the onion into tiny cubes
- In a saucepan over medium heat, add olive Oil
- Once Oil is hot, add the diced onion into the saucepanand stir until the onion is soft and golden
- Mince 2 garlic cloves, place in the saucepan, and stir for 1minute
- Dice 1/2 tomato and add to saucepan
- Puree 2 1/2 tomatoes, place in the saucepan, and stir
- Chop and mince oregano and Basil, then addto the saucepan and stir
- Add tomato paste into the sauce, and stir
- Then add salt and black pepper
- Add 1 bay leaf to the sauce and reduce to low heat, andstir again
Cooking Pasta:
- While beef and sauce are cooking on low heat, boil salty water
- Once water is boiling, add rotine pasta; cook according tothe instructions on the box, add salt to taste
Final steps:
- When the pasta is done, strain it, and turn off the heat for sauce,pasta, and beef
- Combine all three and enjoy!
